Achieving simplicity in design can be more difficult than it seems. Step One, is to plan out your what your space needs. It’s too easy to go to your local home store and just buy random things, bring them home and try to make a room work. You’ll have to start with a clear plan, a list of what’s needed for the space. Here’s where to start. Think about the foundational elements, do you need a bed and dresser or a table and chairs? Once you have these elements, move on to the internal layer. Do you want a rug, bedding, pillows, artwork, shelving? After that you can move on the the peripheral layer, the candles, plants, and nik naks. Keep this layer simple, start small and you can add to it, if needed. After I think I’m done staging a shelf or table, I always go back and edit. Only leaving behind the items that are most favored or important. The things that bring balance and calm. Ask yourself, does this feel calm and inspiring? Or cluttered and chaotic?
